CHILDREN'S / YOUNG ADULTS' PUBLISHING CONSULTATIONS AT NSW WRITERS' CENTRE
Magaret Hamilton - Saturday 27 February, 2010
Are you writing for children or young adults? Looking to take the next step?
It’s notoriously difficult to get specific feedback from most publishing houses – especially on writing for children and young adults. NSW Writers' Centre offers writers the opportunity to meet with two award-winning children’s writers and publishing industry experts.
Having worked for many of the biggest publishers in Australia, MARK MACLEOD knows what they are looking for - and what will sell. Mark was Children's Publishing Director at Random House Australia for ten years, and published books for young readers under his own name imprint at Hodder Headline. He was President of the Children's Book Council of Australia in 2005-6. In 2001, he won the CBCA Lady Cutler Award and in 2003 the Australian Publishers Association Pixie O'Harris Award.
MARGARET HAMILTON has been involved with children's books all her working life. Her publishing company, Margaret Hamilton Books, has achieved international success and a reputation for high quality books, especially picture books. She was Publishing Director at Hodder & Stoughton and President of the Children's Book Council of Australia. Margaret has received the CBCA NSW Lady Cutler Award, the ABPA Pixie Harris Award, the CBCA Nan Chauncy Award, the 2004 Dromkeen Medal and in 2008, an Order of Australia.
Both Margaret and Mark Mark will be holding 30-minute publishing consultations at the NSW Writers’ Centre on dates throughout 2009. Bring a couple of picture book texts, samples from your illustration portfolio, or a chapter from your novel, along with a short synopsis. They can advise on your writing style and subject matter, and will help you to identify your next steps and maximise your chances of publication.
Cost: 30-minute consultations for NSW Writers Centre Members are only $60 ($95 for non-members).
Please note: Consultation prices will be increasing in 2009. This is the last opportunity to take advantage of this price. Don't miss out!
